World Book Day 2010

New website for World Book Day 2010

wbd_tnAfter the successful launch of the World Book Day websites, in 2008 and 2009, we have once again developed the latest World Book Day website for 2010.

World Book Day is the largest annual celebration of books and reading across the UK and Ireland and is a partnership of publishers, booksellers and interested parties who have come together to promote books and reading for personal enrichment and pleasure.

One of the main aims of World Book Day within the UK and Ireland, is to encourage children to discover the advantages and pleasures of books and reading by providing them with the chance to have their own book. A Schools’ pack of ideas and activities, display material and relevant information relating to the event are sent out to primary schools and any secondary schools that have registered to participate.

Many schools decide to run the Readathon on World Book Day and teachers and parents appreciate the extra reading children carry out during the event. Readathon is a charity that runs the UK's biggest sponsored reading campaign. It provides a stimulating focus for recreational reading and raises money for seriously ill children.

During World Book Day many events take place at bookshops and libraries across different areas. Many of these events are open to anyone.

World Book Day 2010 will take place in the UK and Ireland on Thursday 4th March and is sponsored by National Book Tokens.
